Calzone/Anvil at NAMM 2012

Calzone was at NAMM 2012 with all of our friends. Our good friend and famous drummer, Bernard Purdie played at the both every day drawing in a huge crowd.

Speaking of famous drummers, we also had the great drummer for Rod Stewart, Carmine Appice, hanging out with us.

We also had the Owner of Calzone/Anvil Cases Joe Calzone doing a little drumming as well.

Then Kenny Metcalf of Elton John: The Early Years came by to show us his Dodgers outfit.

There was never a dull moment at the Calzone Booth. We were constantly having performances, games and visitors. The president of NAMM, Mr. Joe Lamond even stopped by to join the fun.

We had a great time this year and cannot wait until next year!

How To: Measure Equipment

Between Calzone and Anvil Cases, we have over 100 combined years of experience in the road case business. If there’s a piece of equipment that needs protection during transportation, chances are that we have built a case for it (or something similar). There isn’t much we haven’t seen; we’ve made cases for the Vince Lombardi trophy, a five-and-a-half foot tall Toy Story Woody made of Legos, and a 10 foot boa constrictor (yes, we once made a case for a huge snake, and yes, we remembered to drill air holes).

There was no Lego snake in his boot, however.

Because of our years of experience, we have accumulated over 100,000 designs in our database and can usually just pull up the design for whatever equipment you have. Our engineering department can model virtually all equipment using our Proprietary PRE design software and build a case around it. There are instances that you may need to measure something, however, and you shouldn’t be intimidated because it’s quite easy. Just measure the length of the outermost dimension of each side (length, width, and height) and we can format the foam to fit the equipment snuggly.

Length

Width

Height

Keep in mind that if a piece of equipment has various elevations (say, a keyboard that is 6 inches tall in the back and 3 inches tall in the front), you will also need to provide those dimensions. Finally, the weight of your equipment is important because this will determine the type and density of foam we use for the bottom of the case to ensure optimal protection and support of your equipment.

Keep an eye out for our next post about what to consider when selecting options for your cases.

Calzone and Pro Locker at the Baseball Trade Show

The MLB Winter Meeting just wrapped up in Dallas, TX, and Calzone teamed up with Pro Locker for the event. Each year, the Baseball Trade ShowTM is held in conjunction with the Baseball Winter MeetingsTM to showcase various business enterprises throughout the baseball world. From the website:

Representatives include owners, general managers, marketing and promotions directors, stadium operations personnel, coaches, organizers, buyers, and more. Representatives make purchases for equipment, player apparel, retail merchandise, promotional items and services at the show or just check out the latest baseball products on the market.

Calzone had the opportunity to team up with Pro Locker, which offers various fan engagement games to stadiums across the country. Calzone built the units that encase the Fan Experience Games, which you can see in the pictures below. Click the photos for full size.

Tough Enough for the U.S. Marines

Sometimes it’s necessary to make a house call, sometimes it’s an honor. Calzone Case Vice President Vin Calzone had the opportunity to travel to Marine Barracks, Washington D.C. to assess the equipment of the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, Corps Silent Drill Platoon, and Color Guard to determine how to make sure their instruments and gear made it around the country safely. The Drum and Bugle Corps travel more than 50,000 miles and perform in over 400 events annually, so it made sense to trust Calzone to protect their instruments and equipment. The Corps Silent Drill Platoon, which perform a unique silent precision drill with M1 Garand rifles,  also travel extensively between Washington D.C., training in Yuma, Arizona, and around the country for various performances. Here at Calzone we’re proud and honored to supply the Marines with serious protection for their instruments throughout their travels and performances.

Buckets ‘n Boards on tour with Disney Cruises

While we pride ourselves on offering serious protection for the road, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for laughs. Buckets ‘N Boards, a comedy and music duo consisting of Matt Levingston and Gareth Sever, will be headlining on the Disney Magic cruise ship for five weeks starting this December. The family-friendly show consists of a unique blend of percussion and comedy, where the duo’s drumming and tap dancing take center stage. The trip to the cruise required a couple heavy duty cases for their props, which, as you can see in the pictures, Matt and Gareth were very pleased with.

Electronic music? We have you covered

It’s true that Calzone and Anvil started out as the go-to rock ‘n’ roll road cases for bands from Aerosmith to ZZ Top, but we’ve been protecting DJ’s equipment for almost as long. Our clients include Pioneer DJ (who trusted us with a recent trade show display), and even DJ Skribble of MTV fame. If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s this: DJs are demanding. That’s why we design most DJ cases completely custom to meet all of your needs.

Recently we designed a custom DJ console case for Fusion Enterprises, and they were thrilled with the result. Fusion specializes in full-service lighting and production for private events in the New York City and Long Island area. Check out their gallery to view some of their work.

Thanks!

One of the keys to our success at Calzone-Anvil is our loyal customers. This Thanksgiving, we want to send out our most sincere thanks to our clients and friends who made our company and mission possible. John Bruton at Sound Associates sent us a great story about his experiences with Calzone-Anvil in both his personal and professional life. Check it out:

I recently saw an ad for Calzone where an early model of the Anvil Case was still in use and on the road.  Well I couldn’t help think about the case that I received from my now present employer back in the summer of 1984.  Richard Fitzgerald of Sound Associates, Inc. was so grateful for my band playing at his daughter’s Sweet 16 party that he gave the band members Sound Associates hats and four of these beauties.

The drummer used his as a portable bar and my buddy Joe and I, as guitar players, used ours to carry our stomp effects pedals, tuners, guitar strings and stuff.

Well the band is just a collection of wonderful memories and I can’t find my old Sound Associates hat anywhere but my case is as solid as the day I received it over 27 years ago!

Now I work with my buddy Joe at Sound Associates, Inc. where my generous boss Richard Fitzgerald trusts only Calzone Cases to protect some of the most expensive pro-amp racks and consoles in the pro-sound business!  My hair is turning grey, the band is history but I still play guitar out and about and I realize that some things have not changed.  My Anvil case is still making the rounds and so am I!

Thanks John and Joe for the awesome story and Richard for your continued business throughout the years! Happy Thanksgiving everyone, be safe!

Bullet For My Valentine on tour

This fall, Bullet For My Valentine has been on the road with Calzone Cases.
